Academic Success Coaching in the Learning Commons

As a key initiative of the Learning Commons, Santa Fe College is implementing an academic success coaching program – an approach to student persistence and success that integrates elements of educational support and critical thinking to focus on the whole student, especially in relation to their academic pursuits.  This coaching pilot, can help students maintain and improve their academic performance by providing assistance that is course independent.  Coaches aim to work with students to develop effective academic strategies, use valuable communication skills, and identify actionable goals. We have put together a small team of faculty and staff who have been practicing academic success coaching with students in the Learning Commons.  Please see the schedule below for drop-in coaching availability.  Please encourage students to drop by the Learning Commons during these times – no appointment is needed.  Students will be able to identify coaches from their multi-colored “I’m a Coach” lanyards and “Success Coaching Here” signage.  Tutors can also direct students to someone.  Soon, we will have this information and more on our website (www.sfcollege.edu/learning-commons). For questions or to learn how to become an academic coach, please feel free to contact Keyna Wintjen, Learning Commons Activity Coordinator.  (352-395-5176 orkeyna.wintjen@sfcollege.edu)
