$500 scholarship awarded to 18-22 year old Queen (with additional $250 for state competition), 16-17 Teen Queen does not receive monies, but serves with Queen in promotions throughout the year. Queen must participate in at least 6 community promotion events to receive scholarship (school visit, farm tours, grocery, broadcast segment, ect.)! Areas of competition: Interviews (business suit attire), 2 min speech (any topic/promotion wear attire), and beauty walk (evening/formal attire) with on-stage question. If 19 by January 1st, 2020 Queen (as well as eligible runner ups) may compete at the Florida Watermelon Convention for the title of 2020 Florida Watermelon Queen (3 levels of scholarship monies awarded at state level).
The Chiefland Watermelon Queen plays an important role in helping us not only promote our festival, but also represent our community! She serves as an Advocate for our local watermelon farmers, and the agriculture industry!
The Chiefland Watermelon Queen will walk away from a year of service with the confidence and speaking skills needed to lead her for a lifetime, a strong role model, and given ample opportunities for future networking connections with her possible career choice! Contestants do not have to have an agricultural background, but some knowledge of the industry is helpful.
